Las Vegas Pool Skating

Paul, making it look too easy…

Mark Partain / Paul Smith / Randy Colvin / Spitfire Pool / Las Vegas. Footage shot by Manimal and Fishegg.

The Spitfire pool, an insane right hand kidney I only got to ride half of (the shallow half). Got there too late, it was already filled with dirt to just under the tiles in the deep end. I was able to rig a shallow stair session out of scaffolding and somehow made it and that footage is around somewhere. Wish I had got to ride the whole thing, its looks so fun!

Dave Duncan

The one and only Dave Duncan ripping a nice frontside grind in the pocket.

Looks like the late 1980′s. Probably in southern California. Just ripping through the corner pocket on a juicy frontside, layed in and lapped over, rail down, beefy ass muthafuckin grind.

Take note kids, this is a proper frontside grind in a backyard pool.

Tony Trujillo: Bowl skating on a window

Tony Trujillo skateboarding in a bowl, on a window.

I was sitting in my car in the drive thru of Carl’s Jr when I noticed this on the window of the old Tower Records building in Brea, California. 2006

California pools just got full…

Rain is somewhat here giving this dirty skate state the good ole wash down it rightfully needs.  That means all the empty pools up and down the state just got rinsed at least mildly.  Just enough to break out the buckets and put in some work.  The pools need it, get all that dirt off the surface and sticky again.  No slip grip is what you want and now you got it.  Nothing like a clean plaster surface for skateboarding.  Plaster and urethane go well together as creative partners and even better once you eliminate debris from the equation.  Enjoy the day and get ready to put in some work.  The quicker the better.  Don’t get lazy, evaporation is slow in winter and water discolors relatively quickly if anything is in it like leaves or trash.

Another storm should be here in the next couple days so however much water is in each pool will likely double as the next storm should be similar.  Have fun out there and water the fruit trees next to the pool so at least you will have fruit.  That’s about it, help the fruit to ripen and you’ll get to eat.

To happy grinds, wet skate shoes and soggy socks!
