Pool skaters get used to the fact that most if not all empty pools will someday meet their demise. Mike’s pool in the Garden Grove/Santa Ana part of Orange County is no exception. A classic ‘Tear Drop’ shaped Blue Haven with one of the roundest deep end bowls of any backyard pool I have ridden. Its got bull nose coping that was never sauced or waxed, only real grinds allowed no weak shit here. With an over vert deep end and elliptical transitions throughout, this backyard pool skating treasure was no easy ride. It offered up fast lines and big wrap around carves (the kind you can’t find anywhere) for those not scared to get over vertical to hit the lip. Steep and deep is what accurately describes this pool and if you got to ride it (many did), then you were lucky.
As an ode to this great place, I will be putting together exclusive footy and photos that were shot over the course of this weekend illustrating the pool in all its glory. Extra special thanks go out to Tom Seehusen, Mike, Steve and Al for keeping things legit all these years and always stoking the flames of creativity and positivity.
I am exhausted from the last 2 days constant shooting schedule, skateboarding, shoveling and hauling chunks of concrete coping, gunite and jagged tile/plaster pieces. We ended up saw cutting and jack hammering the critical pieces worth saving and thankfully we have contractors sympathetic to our plight.
The full story will be divided up throughout the month of May to give time to piece it all together for your viewing and reading pleasure. Have a great day!
